The term "type Lommelev-Nyirtura" refers to the classification of shields made of bronze. The type is defined by concentric ribs and round bosses arranged in a star pattern. Only one complete shield is known, from Lommelev in Denmark, but several fragmentary finds are known from Hungary and Croatia. This type of shield is believed to have been used in the early to middle part of the Urnfield period, roughly 1300 BC to 1000 BC. This is a shield made of thick, partially tanned oxhide, with a reinforced edge made of twisted, willow branches, treated with hot bees-wax/resin front and back. The shield is well-suited for swords of both Naue II and Hemigkofen types.
